What You Really Need To Start Your Own Business

Are you one of the growing number of people who are keen to opt-out of the rat race and do something you feel is more in tune with your deepest calling? Do you have an idea, or passion that you can’t stop thinking about? Do you want to break free of the mundane routine of everyday life, and explore the unequivocal sense of freedom that comes with owning your own business?

The good news is, you’re in the right place – and there are no real limits on who can become a great entrepreneur! You don’t necessarily need a university degree, qualifications, a ton of money in the bank or even business experience to start something that could become the next major success!

However, there are a few things that I personally believe you need to start your own business. And – I’ve decided to compile them all into this article for you to help you take the necessary steps moving forward.

An idea, or calling that you can’t stop thinking about

Without having some sort of passion or true calling driving you, you will not survive as an entrepreneur. Because let’s face it – the grind of building a business will take a toll on you emotionally, mentally, and physically.

The stresses of being out there on your own can be very tough to overcome without having a purpose or passion driving you forward. You need to have that fire burning deep within the layers of your womb that’s charging you energetically, and guiding you forward every step of the way with passion and purpose.  

Commitment to releasing negative beliefs

Limiting beliefs are the number one thing that stops people from being courageous enough to start their own business. I’ve heard them all! “I’m not good enough,” – “My idea isn’t perfect” – “I’m not ready” – “I won’t make enough money” – “I don’t deserve to be successful”- “I’m not healed enough yet”.

Rewiring these limiting beliefs is one of the first steps to becoming an entrepreneur. Listening to the way you speak about yourself and replacing any negative self-talk with beliefs that empower you is vital if you want your business (and well-being for that matter) to be successful.

The trick is staying committed to releasing these negative beliefs. Because honestly, they are always going to be there! They might come up much less often, or even change and evolve as you grow with your business, but even now, I still experience limiting beliefs!

I have felt the agony of doubt. I have felt like I was drowning in worry around my expectations failing. I have projected problem after problem, worst-case scenario after worst-case scenario. Even the most successful entrepreneurs in the world do too! It’s just about holding a commitment to both yourself and your business that you will continue to work through them regardless of how loud they become.

A brand personality that reflects you and your offering

Brands, much like humans, have certain personality traits. They can be funny, carefree, authoritative, playful, trustworthy, athletic, rough, soft, feminine, masculine, romantic, sophisticated, sarcastic and sincere. How do you want your brand to be perceived in the world? What kind of feeling do you want your audience to feel when they are experiencing your brand or looking at your social media?

This needs to be strong and communicated across every angle of your offering. You need to speak in your brand’s tone of voice, wear its clothes, and even create a scent or a color associated with its personality. This is how you get your audience to connect with you, by making them feel, every single time they interact with your offering.

Research and strategy

Whether you are launching a new brand or already own an established business, understanding the current landscape is vital. Undertaking competitive analysis can give insights to help you position and improve your offering.

With heavy research into the market, you can uncover the strengths and weaknesses of your competition. You can understand their unique selling point in the eyes of the customer, and get an overview of the level of competition among different markets and demographics.

You can then figure out what’s working, and what isn’t, and then focus on making your offering unique. What makes your business different? What is your unique selling point? Why do clients want to work/purchase from you and not your competitors? This all needs to be researched and embedded into your strategy moving forward.

Ideal client awareness and content based on their needs and wants

Who is going to buy your product? What are their needs and desires? Why do they need your offering? How are you going to connect and relate to them and their needs and wants? Why are they going to buy from you and not your competitors?

Understanding who your client is will be the first step. Connecting with them, and I mean – truly connecting with them, is the second step. Unless your audience can truly connect with your offering, and have a deep understanding of why they need it, and how it can improve their life, then they are not going to buy from you.

Strategy brand creation and marketing

Think of a content marketing strategy as an outline of your key business and customer needs, plus a detailed plan for how you will use content to address them.

What ideas and messages do you want to communicate with the world? How do those messages differ from your competition?  How do you see the landscape evolving once you have shared them with your audience? What kind of content does your audience want to see? How is your audience going to connect with you?

Because if the content your audience finds is engaging, educational, and valuable, then they will start to think the same things about your business. The more value you can provide with your content, the easier it will be to build trust with your target audience.

Financial planning and intentions

This stage of your business is all about excitement, determination and dreaming big. Money is energy. And your income is an energetic wave that comes back to you as compensation for your work in the world.

 As well as having an effective financial plan, so you can determine what your business success looks like, and what needs to be done to achieve it, you need to have a strong belief that you deserve AND are more than capable of making a lot of money.

Nothing stops manifestation and success faster than lack and disbelief. CLAIM and believe in your worth, and claim and believe in earning big money, because no one else is going to do that for you. 

Investment in mentors, coaching or educational content

You will never truly know what you’re capable of until you have someone who pushes you outside your comfort zone and tells you that you can, and you will.
